Captain Valentin GAVRILĂ
Was born on June 24th, 1975 in Cernavoda, Romania.
He graduated from the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" Naval Military High School in 1993 and the "Mircea cel Bătrân" Naval Academy in 1998. After graduation, he was assigned to a port minesweeper as an executive officer with the rank of ensign. He was promoted to lieutenant JG in 2000 and was appointed head of the underwater weapons department on a minesweeper.
From 2001 to 2016, he fulfilled a number of positions such as head of the navigation department onboard VPR 198, head of the artillery and missile department as well as second officer onboard NPR 189, staff officer in the general staff, head of the information protection department, in the 150th Naval Missile Division being promoted to the ranks of lieutenant in 2004, lieutenant commander in 2009 and commander in 2013.
Since 2016, he assumed various positions within the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate "Captain Alexandru Cătuneanu" such as head of N3-N7 branch, head of GEOINT department and head of procurement department.
In 2019, he graduated from Command College at "Carol I" National Defense University.
He was promoted to the rank of navy captain in 2022 and, starting from July 2023, performs the duties of Chief of Staff of the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate "Captain Alexandru Cătuneanu".
Has two deployments within the Atalanta - European Union's Operation against piracy in Somalia, and participated in many national and international exercises.
During his career he completed various career, specialization and foreign language courses in Romania or abroad.
He is married to Monica and together they have two children.
He is fluent in English.
